I'm Clare Yang, a Sydney-based illustrator originally from China.
After eight years working as a book editor, I discovered illustration after moving to Australia in 2015. Since then, I've been telling stories through picture books, observational drawing and personal illustration projects.
I work across both traditional and digital media, choosing whichever best serves the story. Alongside creating picture books and illustrations, I keep sketchbooks with me wherever I go. Drawing on location has become an essential part of my creative practice, teaching me to observe more carefully and to appreciate the richness of everyday places.
My work is inspired by my Chinese heritage, everyday life in Australia, and a long-standing practice of drawing on location. These influences come together in stories that celebrate childhood, curiosity and the quiet magic found in ordinary moments.
